Billionaire pastor, Shepherd Bushiri arrested for fraud.
The leader of South Africa domiciled Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church, Shepherd Bushiri has been arrested for fraud related offences.
His arrest was confirmed by the ECG church’s spokesperson Maynard Manyowa who took to Bushiri’s official Facebook account to intimate congregants of the development.
Manyowa informed members of the church in the post, that Bushiri was arrested alongside Mary his wife in a lavish Rustenburg hotel this morning.
According to him: “The Hawks’ case against the pair, concerns alleged offences of fraud, money laundering and contravention of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act. (POCA), committed from 2015, in relation to Exchange Control Regulations related to foreign currency in an amount of 1 147 200 USD.
“Police came in the morning to the hotel, picked them up, saying they wanted to talk to them. They wouldn’t tell us exactly why or how. They didn’t take them to as police station, but they took them to the headquarters of the Hawks.”
Manyowa also said in a statement according to EWN that: “As you will remember, from last year, we have struggled with reports that our father was guilty. He has been detained and is being questioned by the Hawks in Silverton, Pretoria.”
The couple who is reported to be having huge money business interests in South Africa and other parts of the world are expected to appear before the Pretoria Commercial Crime Court on Monday.”
A Sowetan news outfit, Sunday World, had last year reported that the top notch crime-smashing unit of the police, the Hawks was investigating seductive prophet Shepherd Bushiri for money laundering allegations after a faction of the church leadership claimed he was sending an estimated R15-million a month to Malawi, his country of birth.
They had legend that the money was allegedly ferried out of South Africa in Bushiri’s private jet and other vehicles.
