PASTOR IN JAIL FOR FOUNDING A CHURCH
An American pastor has been jailed by Turkish government for founding the ‘ The Kurdish Church of Messiah ‘.
Andrew Brunson, who pastors a church of about thirty congregants has been arraigned at several times since October 2016 when he was arrested alongside his wife on charges bordering on founding a church for rebels, spying, and trying to change the constitutional order’
The Turkey based American pastor is alleged to be working with armed Kurdish groups but also was claimed to have worked with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), and is involved with American espionage. Prosecution had asserted that he had constant contacts with Bekir Baz, whom they claim is a “point man” for Gulen’s organization which is rated a terrorist organisation.
Brunson, had also denied any complicity in the 2016 Turkish coup attempt for which he is being held “I am not a member of an Islamic movement. I have never seen any member of FETÖ [the Gülen movement] in my life.
Norine, his wife, who was arrested with him but was later released after two weeks, now serves as the main source of information relevant to his detention.
She is reported to have made revelations of the impatience of his Muslim cell mates to proselytise him to Islam.
